Gardeners will be out to show they know their onions when they put their giant vegetables on display this weekend.
Cardwell Garden Centre, near Gourock is hosting the annual Strathclyde Leek and Onion Society Show, on Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23.
Hundreds of entries are expected for the horticultural extravaganza with some of the leeks on show up to three feet high.
And with free entry, crowds are expected to turn up to marvel at the enormous onions, colossal leeks and king-sized carrots among other vegetables, like potatoes, cauliflowers and beetroot.
Entries are from all over Scotland and enthusiastic gardeners have carefully nurtured the vegetables over the past nine months.
As well as the Leek and Onion Show, Cardwell will also host a family fun day with games like Hoopla, Hook A Duck and Feed The Clown along with a visit by three Paw Patrol characters – Sky, Chase and Marshall. There will also be music, a barbeque, bouncy castle and face painting.
Cardwell’s retail general manager, Paul Carmichael said: “You need to see the size of some of these vegetables to believe it.
“These guys certainly know how to make their garden grow and people who come along to see the veg on display never fail to be amazed.
“And after visitors to Cardwell have marveled at the displays of giant vegetables, they can have lots of fun at all the other activities we have over the weekend.”
