Apart from participating in the club’s biggest win for several seasons, the Erskine defender also got the chance to renew old associations, when local football team Parkmoor Boys Club took advantage of the Pirates’ special discounted tickets scheme for voluntary organisations. Club coach, and big brother, Ian Turley, explained: “We regard ourselves very much as part of the local community, so we’ve been doing special deals for local organisations for quite some time now. It allows them to come and see their local ice hockey team in action without breaking the bank, while introducing them to all the thrills and spills associated with the sport. This time around though, it was more special than usual as my wee brother Chris actually played for Parkmoor Boys Club a few years ago, so it was lovely to be able to welcome the under 14 side to Braehead Arena and renew acquaintances with a club which holds so many fond memories for him. I don’t know who got the biggest thrill on the night, whether it was the members of the club who got to meet the players, and Chris in particular, or Chris, who got the chance to re-live his younger days for the night.”
“We also persuaded a couple of the Parkmoor squad to present the Man of the Match awards at the end of the game, so all in all it was a very successful evening, between recording our biggest win in some time, and saying hello to a club which has more than a little significance for Chris. We hope the kids, and the adults too, enjoyed their night as the guests of the Paisley Pirates.”
