This exhibition re-visits an earlier Information exhibition that was held at the Museum 25 years ago and included works by then-students of Glasgow School of Art, who went on to win or be short-listed for the prestigious Turner prize.
In 1989 a group of 17 emerging artists from Glasgow School of Art staged a ground-breaking exhibition at Paisley Museum, called Information. The majority of these artists were to become key practitioners of their art and included Dave Allen, Claire Barclay, Martin Boyce, Roddy Buchanan, Nathan Coley, Jackie Donachie, Douglas Gordon, Michael McDonagh, Craig Richardson, Ross Sinclair and Karen Vaughan.
The 2014 exhibition showcases the work of an international group of artists studying on the Masters of Letters in Fine Art Practice at Glasgow School of Art. Working across four medium specificities: painting, sculpture, photography and printmaking, these artists respond to the theme of Information through a range of diverse practices and approaches.
Information will also feature a gallery dedicated to archive material from the 1989 exhibition, including original artworks by Ross Sinclair and former Turner Prize nominee Nathan Coley.
Councillor Jim Harte, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Sport, Leisure and Cultural Policy Board states:
"This exhibition is a fantastic opportunity to look back on the wealth of talent that has been presented at Paisley Museum through the years. It has also given us the opportunity to further develop our successful partnership between Paisley Museum and Glasgow School of Art and to be part of the nation-wide Generation Festival further establishes Paisley Museum as an important venue on the Scottish art scene."
Generation is a major nation-wide exhibition programme showcasing some of the best and most significant art to have emerged from Scotland over a period of 25 years. Generation offers access to world-class art on an unparalleled scale with over 70 venues ranging from small galleries to national institutions across Scotland taking part.
Information will be on display at Paisley Museum, High St, Paisley PA1 2BA from 11 July – 5 October. Admission is free.
