The Scottish Sun Soccer Sevens and Fun Fours Festival will take place at the Ferguslie Sports Centre and the St James’ Playing Fields in Paisley on the weekend of 2-3 August.
The following weekend, the Glasgow City Cup tournament, without its usual home this year as the city hosts the Commonwealth Games, will be played at the King George V Playing Fields in Renfrew.
St Mirren legend Tony Fitzpatrick and Councillor Jim Harte, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Sport, Leisure and Culture Policy Board, teamed up this week to promote both events.
Cllr Harte said: “This has already been a fantastic summer of sport in Renfrewshire and it just keeps getting better.
“I’m delighted that Renfrewshire Council was able to step in and offer to host the City Cup tournament with Glasgow Green being unavailable this year. With so many teams competing, it should be a real festival of football and I’d encourage everyone to come along and watch some of the games.”
“The Soccer Sevens and Fun Fours Festival the weekend before is another great event which gets kids involved in football at a young age. I’m sure they’ll both be very successful and very entertaining to watch.”
Tony Fitzpatrick added: “We’ve got a great track record of youth football here in Renfrewshire that has produced a lot of very good players over the years.
“Tournaments like these where kids get experience of competing against teams from other areas are vital in their development.”
“I wish all the coaches, the players and their families all the best and I hope they really enjoy their visit to Renfrewshire.”
