The 12-month exhibition programme featuring model brick-work by acclaimed LEGO artist Warren Elsmore will take place at Historic Environment Scotland (HES) sites across the country, including Aberdour Castle, Glasgow Cathedral and Stirling Castle, from Saturday 3 February.
The Brick Wonders and Brick History exhibitions, created by Elsmore’s highly talented team of designers and artists, focus on pivotal moments and amazing sights from around the globe, featuring everything from the seven wonders of the ancient world, scientific discoveries from the Big Bang Theory to DNA, and recent history from mobile phones to the moon landings.
Creator, Warren Elsmore, said: “We love transforming the world around us into LEGO scenes. It’s a fun way to translate history into a medium that everyone can understand and relate to, especially young people.
“Forget dry lists of kings or endless battle dates – this is history brought to life. It’s great when we see visitors making that instant connection with our projects and hope it will inspire them to learn even more about our history.”
The partnership between HES and Warren Elsmore follows the success of the Brick City exhibition at Fort George, which saw over 2,600 visitors marvel at the mini creation – a 41% rise in footfall from the previous year.
Rebecca Bailey, Head of Education & Outreach at HES, said: “LEGO bricks are unique in their appeal, having been a top-selling toy for over fifty years so it’s great for us to be able to showcase history in such an engaging way.
“The artistic Brick City display instantly piqued the interest of our visitors at Fort George, and we’re sure these eye-catching exhibitions will be a big attraction throughout 2018 for young people - and the big kids too.”
Warren Elsmore’s Brick Wonders and Brick History models are to tour HES sites throughout Scotland until January 2019:
3rd Feb-22nd Apr: Brick Wonders at Aberdour Castle
28th Apr-8th Jul: Brick Wonders at Arbroath Abbey
14th Jul-23rd Sep: Brick Wonders at Glasgow Cathedral
29th Sep-23rd Jan: Brick Wonders at Stirling Castle
12th Oct-6th Jan: Brick History at Fort George
For more information and to book, visit: www.HistoricEnvironment.scot. Entry to the exhibition is included in the normal admission price of the sites.
