About Online History Cafe: Peter Burner, Paisley’s Coloured Weaver
Arriving in Paisley about 1781, Peter is one of the first coloured Americans to arrive in Scotland. He trained to be a weaver with the Tanahill family, and lived at the Tanahill home in Queen Street for much of his life. He died in 1847, having seen many changes in world and local affairs, though he is best rememberd for a sad event in Paisley's history - the death of his friend Robert Tanahill, whom Peter found drowned in the Candren burn culvert which passed under the Paisley Canal at Ferguslie Mills.
This Online History Cafe will look at Peter's life from his humble beginnings in Virginia to his travels in Scotland.
