Scotland’s iconic lunchtime theatre experience, Play Pie and a Pint, returns with a brand-new show after a run of sell out performances in our Spring 2025 season.
The Glasgow Poisoner: A New Musical
Written and directed by Tom Cooper & Jen McGregorMusical direction by Samuel Macdonald
The most sensational murder trial of the nineteenth century.
Madeleine Smith, a Glasgow socialite living in Blythswood Square, was accused of a secret affair and poisoning her lover to death.
The trial ended with a rare ‘Not Proven’ verdict, but now Plume, an aspiring pamphleteer, is working out which version of the story to tell. Was Madeleine innocent or guilty?
Inspired by the scandalous real-life story, The Glasgow Poisoner is a new musical by Tom Cooper and Jen McGregor that explores our obsession with true crime and female killers, then and now.
Co-presented with A Play, A Pie and A Pint and The Gaiety Theatre Ayr.
“Arguably the best-value cultural event in the country” - Sunday Times (on Play, Pie and a Pint)
“This is musical theatre that is challenging, compelling and compulsive’ - The Stage (on Myths and Hymns by Tom Cooper)
“Powerful...a story of a generation hertbroken by empty promises of equality and opportunity” ,★★★★★The Scotsman (on Who PaysThe Piper by Jen McGregor)
