The Johnstone Operatic and Dramatic Society was formed in 1963 by our founder Tom Carmichael. The clubs primary aim was, and continues to be, to give enjoyment to the local community; either by becoming a member and taking part in club productions, or simply coming to see the finished performances. Between 1963 and 1971 the club performed many musicals including Oliver!, Guys and Dolls and our very first show Oklahoma! However due to lack of support in 1972 the club performed was forced to perform concerts to gain funds and attract new members. After a lot of hard work the managed to 'rise from the ashes' and changed our name to Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group.

Since rebranding as the Johnstone Phoenix we have went from strength to strength performing our 80th production in 2008. We now perform two shows a year comprising of a musical in spring and a pantomome at Christmas. In addition to our main senior group, the club has been proud to also have had a Youth section since 1994, which has offered the youth of Johnstone and the surrounding areas the chance to tread the boards from an early age. The club also continues to tour and entertain the community through our Concert Party group for various churches, guilds and retirement homes.

This proud history will only continue to flourish with new talent joining us!!! Therefore, if you are interested in becoming a member please contact us!
