Born in 1924 in Glasgow’s southside, some of Boyd’s early adventures include a stint with the Royal Ballet School in London and running off to sea with a Chinese shipping company. He finally settled in Skye where he was reknowned as the friendly boatman of the crossing from Mallaig. Boyd’s place in local legend came from his travel tales and regular shindigs. The open door policy of the fabled get-togethers offered a warm welcome to travellers from far and wide, sharing fine single malts, great food and a menagerie of music.
