The charity will be participating in Paisley’s Halloween Festival from the 28th October – 1st November, with this year’s theme revealed to be ‘Out of This World’. Within a 16-metre-high spaceship sculpture created by artist Mick Stephenson, a cargo bay will contain messages from young people from a variety of community groups. The messages are being shared through story box dioramas, and highlight what young people want to share with the universe. For Kibble’s young people, their creations are about the environment, their hopes and dreams as well as messages calling for adults to consider care experienced young people in their decision making.
The futuristic theme is one which resonates strongly with Kibble Group, as the charity intends to be part of the legacy that drives positive and lasting change for Scotland’s most vulnerable young people. This legacy, called The Promise, is led by the Scottish Government and calls for shifts in policy, practice and culture to transform the country’s care system and improve the lives of care-experienced people.
Additionally, young people have transformed Kibble’s Paisley campus for the occasion, creating a ‘Spooktacular Trail’ to be enjoyed by staff and peers alike with spooky artefacts and costumes all created by the young people themselves. Preparations for the frightening festivities were supported by superstore Aldi for the second year in a row, with a generous donation of pumpkins for young people. There will be prizes for the funniest, scariest and best homemade decorations, and the competition is reportedly fierce, with music, projections and lighting effects installed to create an eerie ambience.
Sarah Falconer, Arts Development Officer at Kibble, said: “Amongst the excitement of our Halloween plans, it feels like the ideal opportunity to share our artwork, which is in line with The Promise as we focus on elevating the voices of our young people. Halloween is a key event for children across the globe, and we hope to create meaningful memories for those in our care.
“We’re very thankful that Aldi have provided the pumpkins to allow our young people to showcase their creativity.”
Richard Holloway, Aldi Regional Managing Director for Scotland, said: “We always look forward to seeing what the talented young people at Kibble come up with for their pumpkin carving designs. This is the second year in a row we have made a donation of pumpkins, and we have not been left disappointed.
“It’s great to see the pumpkins going to good use and bringing some fun to this Halloween. I was particularly impressed by the jack-o’-lantern faces and looking forward to hearing who the judges crowned the winner of the pumpkin trail.”
