Praise as active travel campaign in Renfrewshire passes 750 members

Walkers, cyclists and public transport users in Renfrewshire are benefitting from discounts at local businesses as part of a year-long active travel campaign.

More than 750 people have now signed up to the Not Far? Leave the Car campaign as they look to get healthier, lead more active lives and reduce their emissions by using the car as little as possible.

The campaign rewards people for tracking their journeys using sustainable transport with points that can be redeemed at more than 100 businesses in Renfrewshire or donated to charity.

Discounts can be used at cafes and restaurants, hairdressers and tanning salons, jewellers, gift shops, chemists, opticians and many other local businesses across the area.

There are regular prize draws, offers for double points and participants could win a £15 voucher at Nomads’ Coffee Shop in Paisley if they register a journey by the end of July.

Councillor Michelle Campbell, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said: “I’m delighted to see so many people signing up to take part in this campaign as it’s so important that we use sustainable travel whenever we can.

“Reducing our emissions is key to tackling climate change so if we can all do our bit by walking, cycling, sharing a lift or using the bus or train instead of setting off in the car then we will make small steps towards progress.

“It’s great to get rewarded for taking part with discounts at so many fantastic local businesses in Renfrewshire and it gives a boost to their trade too, so sign up today for free and start earning rewards straight away.”

Journeys are tracked either automatically or manually on the free BetterPoints app and vouchers can be redeemed in store or through the Renfrewshire Gift Card.
