Paisley to get its very own Buddie Walk of Fame... have your say on who should get a star!

Now Paisley First is wanting to hear from Paisley Buddies and businesses to find out who they would like to see commemorated in stone on the streets of the town centre.

The trail will run throughout the Paisley First BID area and phase one will see at least six commemorative stones being laid.

The experience will be enhanced with added extras on the Paisley First app which will also highlight the town’s historic buildings.

Scotland’s largest town and a former burgh, Paisley has been contributing to the world stage for centuries.

Anyone from the arts or worlds of media, politics and sport can be nominated along with educators and industrialists as long as they have made a recognisable impact in their specialist category, be originally from the area or have prominent links to the town.

Elaine Templeton, Chair of Paisley First, said: “Anyone can be nominated for a Paisley star - it can be someone from the silver screen or someone who was instrumental in the industrial revolution in Paisley, as long as they are a Buddie or an adopted Buddie then they can be considered.

“This is a perfect way to celebrate the achievements of Buddies the world over and help inspire a younger generation to achieve their dreams.”

This project is supported by Renfrewshire Council’s Culture, Heritage and Events Fund (CHEF).

The Culture, Heritage and Event Fund is administered by One Ren on behalf of Renfrewshire Council.

It is part of Future Paisley, the council-led programme of events, activity and targeted investment which is using Paisley’s unique and internationally significant story to change its future.

Councillor Lisa-Marie Hughes, Chair of the Future Paisley Partnership Board, said: “This is a very exciting project for Paisley and I’m delighted that the community can have their say on who should be recognised with their very own star.

“The Culture, Heritage and Events Fund is designed to support projects that, not only encourage creative participation in Renfrewshire, but also increase the number of visitors to the area and help raise the profile of Renfrewshire throughout the UK.

“I know having our very own Walk of Fame will be a great attraction for both locals and visitors alike, and I hope through recognising the achievements of Buddies past and present, we will also encourage future generations of Buddies to reach for the stars.”

Phase one of the project is due to be launched in Spring 2024.

To nominate someone for the Buddie Walk of Fame, please email the Paisley First team at buddiewalkoffame@paisleyfirst.com with your suggestion and why you think they would be a worthy addition to the project.

Submissions are open now until 5pm on Sunday 7th January 2024.
