Five designs will be selected with the child behind each winning design given the opportunity to push the button to switch on the Christmas lights in either Paisley, Johnstone, Renfrew, Linwood or Erskine. One lucky winner will also have the chance to receive a visit from a member of the Glasgow Clan ice hockey team to switch on their own festive lights at home.
The winning designs will also be recreated in a digital format as Provost Cameron’s official Christmas cards and sent out all over the world.
The theme for 2025 is 'A Christmas Eve Journey with Santa'.
Although there will be only five designs chosen for the Provost's official cards, every card that is submitted to the competition will be forwarded to I Am Me Scotland, who will arrange for them to go to our elderly residents across Renfrewshire.
'I Am Me Scotland' is a multi-award winning charity working towards changing attitudes and behaviours so that disabled and vulnerable people can feel safe within their communities.
Each card should include a message, for example 'I hope you have a lovely Christmas', and be signed with the child's first name, age, and name of their Primary School.
Provost Cameron said: “I’m delighted to be bringing back my Christmas Card Competition again. Switching on the Christmas lights is a really important job and I need someone to help make sure it all goes smoothly. For 2025 we’ll also be switching the lights on in Linwood and Erskine so it’s extra special for all the children in these areas.
“One lucky winner will also have the chance to have a team member of the Glasgow Clan ice hockey club come along to their house and switch on their own festive lights!
“This year my theme is a Christmas Eve Journey with Santa. This means your card can feature any Christmas scene as long as it references Christmas Eve around the world – for example you might want to show Santa delivering presents or things he might see from his sleigh like families enjoying Christmas Eve traditions. I can’t wait to see how creative you can be.”
All entries should be on A4 card or paper folded into an A5 card with the message inside.
The image of the winning entries will be replicated in a flat A5 format, so although you're free to use glitter or other decorative items, we won't be able to replicate that in the print for the Christmas cards.
The closing date for entries is Thursday 23 October and they can be posted to:
