The event which takes place on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 September is Scotland’s largest free festival celebrating heritage and the built environment, as well as the chance to learn more about buildings old and new.
A number of Renfrewshire locations will be open to the public across the weekend, many with kids’ activities planned to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Buildings offering people the chance to visit and delve deeper into their history include Paisley Abbey, Sma’ Shot Cottages and Weaver’s Cottages in Kilbarchan. The recently refurbished Paisley Arts Centre will also be open for visitors.
Great outdoor spaces also taking part in Renfrewshire’s Doors Open Days weekend include the RSPB Nature Reserve in Lochwinnoch, Barshaw Park’s Walled Peace Garden and Renfrew Association of Growers and Gardener based in Broadloan Community Gardens.
As part of the activities on offer visitors can join Maggie’s Line Dancing for a flash mob outside Paisley Abbey on Saturday or watch the Kevin Stewart Memorial Scooter Ride Out, part of Modstuff 2025, leave from County Square at midday. Restoration and Creation on Browns Lane will be hosting a Mod Market on Saturday, and new addition Locavore Barnhill will be offering a tour of their 21-acre farm at 1:30pm – sign up in advance online.
As part of this year’s programme, visitors will also have the chance to see the opening of the grade A listed Bascule Bridge on Saturday at 11am and 1pm, and the new Renfrew Bridge at 2:30pm.
Doors Open Days is coordinated nationally by the Scottish Civic Trust and is part of European Heritage Days supported by Historic Environment Scotland.
