Launching The Melting Pot's 'AI & Social Innovation' series of events, we are delighted to invite attendees to a discussion and workshop on AI and its existential risk.
The event will provide a general context of where we are in AI development, what the latest advances are and work toward some big questions that concern social innovators: what are the key threats behind the use of AI? What are the distinctive characteristics of Scotland's AI landscape? And above all, how would look a "good" future for us in our complex relationship with AI and what can you do about it?
Speakers:
Giles Howdle (School of Philosophy, Psychology & Language Sciences- University of Edinburgh). Giles is a philosopher at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on the nature and ethical implications of AI. Giles is an Affiliate of the Centre for Technomoral Futures and is a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Philosophy.
Elliot Fosong (AI Safety Hub Edinburgh). Elliot is a final-year PhD student at the University of Edinburgh researching multi-agent reinforcement learning. He is interested in ensuring the development of safe and beneficial AI, and co-founded and organises AI Safety Hub Edinburgh (https://aished.org).
