Please join us at The Rum Shack on 13th May 2024 for Daydream Nation, a special event with a screening of short animated films from local and international artists, a special audio visual performance by Gloria Goose (@karolina.glusiec) & Southside Somnambulant Society (@practicegoodpractice @rossilator @templeprints), tunes across the evening from Si ‘Stereo Sanctity’ B (@si__b__), and featured artwork from Jamie Temple (@templeprints)
Come along, have a drink, listen to some music, watch some brilliant films and live performances, and pick up some special merch!!
Daydream Nation is a celebration of short DIY filmmaking, which in many ways for us carries the qualities and ethos of grunge. If this kind of filmmaking was a music genre then we would call it “visual grunge” !
The lineup of films is made up of people that we have come to know and love, and will include new and old works by:
Pallavi Agarwala @pallavi.agarwala
Hannah Brewerton @hannahbrewerton
Zekkereya El-magharbel @zekkereyaa
Danny Grant @dannygrant.xyz
Ross Hogg @mrrosshogg
Alex Karaconji @alexkaraconji
Louis Managh @louismngh
Mary Martins @marymartinsart
Peter Millard @hellopetermillard
Diyala Muir @diyala.muir
Ruby O’Hare @ruby.ohare
Collette Rayner @collectte_call
Edwin Rostron @edwinrostron2
Kohana Wilson @kohana.wilson
Standard tickets are £4 (ticket link in bio) but no one will be turned away from lack of funds, so drop us a message here if you want to come but don’t have the funds. We also have a £25 ticket which comes with a unique etched lino print based on our poster (35cm x 25cm) made by @templeprints if you fancy some special Daydream Nation merch!!
If you can, please consider making a donation, as we are reliant on your support to keep these events going. All profits will go towards future events and paying our artists for the amazing work they do.
Coming up soon from the Daydream Nation programme: we will be hosting regular events made up of intertwined meetings, screenings, music performances, talks, radio events and workshops taking place in-person around Glasgow and online. We are planning a follow-up workshop combining animation and printmaking soonish (July! At The Glad Cafe), so keep an eye out on our instagram @dept.con.temporary & @daydream.nation2024, or sign up to our mailing list via link in bio.
We want our events to be open and welcoming to all, so please be considerate and mindful of those around you. Sadly access is non step free, but we will always do our best to help out those with additional needs and make sure our events are as accessible as possible.
Animation programme curated by Karolina Glusiec, artwork and design by Jamie Temple.
Supported by Cinema for All & BFI
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
