About Renfrewshire’s Big Spring Clean

Renfrewshire’s Big Spring Clean is back for 2025 and local people are being encouraged to roll up their sleeves and help make a difference to their communities.

Running now until Saturday 31 May, the Big Spring Clean is part of Renfrewshire Council’s award-winning Team Up to Clean Up campaign, which supports residents to take pride in their communities and help improve their local area.

Throughout April and May, hundreds of volunteers will be equipped with free litter pickers, bags, and support from the council to carry out clean-ups in their local areas. Council teams will then collect the rubbish once it’s bagged up.

There are various organised litter pickups where schools, businesses, and community groups will be meeting, but those who would rather go on their own time will also be supported.

While volunteers are out litter picking all year-round, the Big Spring Clean is when many choose to take part. Last year, more than 725 volunteers took part and over 3,200 bags of litter were picked up from retail parks, green areas, town centres, and residential streets.

The Team Up to Clean Up campaign aims to make Renfrewshire a more attractive place to live and visit. Beyond litter picking, volunteers also sweep roads, clean drains, and clear fly tipping.

Councillor Michelle Campbell, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said: “The growing enthusiasm for the Big Spring Clean shows the pride people have in where they live. I know from speaking to volunteers that it’s not just about tidying up but about coming together and enjoying that sense of community.

“Every year, more people get involved and that’s down to both our inspiring volunteers and how easy it is to take part. Just get in touch and we’ll provide everything you need.

“Whether you join in once or volunteer throughout the year, together we are all making a difference in creating a Renfrewshire we can all be proud of.”
