Himalayan Balsam is an invasive plant species that grows vigourously along banks and riversides, shading other native plant species out. During winter it dies back leaving bare ground which is vulnerable to erosion, which can negatively affect habitats along the lochshore, such as spawning fish beds and ground nesting bird sites.
