The Outrun – drama – 15
Dir. Nora Fingscheidt
2024 – 118 mins – UK, Germany – Language: English
Based on the best-selling memoir by Amy Liptrot, The Outrun is set in the otherworldly Orkney islands of Scotland. A brutally honest drama (BIFA nominated – Best British Independent Film) about addiction and recovery, strength and survival, mental health and the ability of the sea, the land and of people to restore life and renew hope. Rona (Golden Globe award-winning actress Saorise Ronan), fresh out of rehab, returns to the wild Orkney Islands after more than a decade away. As she reconnects with the dramatic landscape where she grew up, memories of her childhood merge with the more recent challenging events that have set her on the path to recovery.
Saoirse Ronan brings a quiet defiance to this elegant study of addiction
