Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid Training – 2-Day Certified Course
Topics covered include:
Attitudes to mental health, Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Self-Harm, Substance Use, Suicide, Listening Skills, and Recovery.
The course is interactive and collaborative, using a mix of slides, videos, group discussions, and practical activities to suit a variety of learning styles.
What you’ll gain:
• Confidence to provide initial support to someone in mental distress
• A better understanding of common mental health conditions
• A Public Health Scotland Certificate of Attendance
• A comprehensive manual for future reference
• New tools and knowledge to support colleagues, friends, family, and community members
The five key aims of Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA) training are:
• To preserve life
• To provide initial help
• To prevent the problem from worsening
• To promote recovery of good mental health
• To provide comfort to those in distress
Important note: This course is not counselling or therapy training. Just like physical first aid, your role is to offer initial support and guide the person to professional help when needed.
