Locals who enjoy a walk in the woods got some welcome news this week from a special volunteer project.
A key section of the woodland footpath in Glenfield Woods, Glenburn, has been upgraded by a team of 20 volunteers.
The group were supported in their efforts with funding from Renfrewshire Council and the national Paths for All charity.
The two-week-long works are part of a bigger plan to refurbish all paths and steps within the woodland.
Project Manager Jordan McPhail said: “We’ve reached a key milestone in the project and really improved the standard of this section of the path. The team have put a lot of hard work in but we’re proud of what has been achieved and will keep working to get the rest of the path in the best possible condition.”
“It’s important to point out that, as well as improving the path, the project has helped volunteers who have been away from work for some time to gain new employability skills and has assisted a number of them to move into work. Our volunteers carry out a variety of projects across Renfrewshire and are always striving to improve local spaces and this is a great showcase of the partnership work we carry out with the Council."
Cllr Eddie Devine, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Environment Policy Board, was on hand to see the work for himself and said: “It’s great to see the work the team have done to make the path fit-for-purpose. It will not only be enjoyed by those out for a leisurely stroll but makes for a much more accessible link to local bus routes and amenities
“We’re committed to supporting groups who are rejuvenating local spaces in their community and the work being done here at Glenfield Woods is a great example for others.”
