Lead singer with Altered Images, Clare Grogan, whose hit Happy Birthday made the charts in 1981, has agreed to do the honours for charity Nordoff Robbins Scotland at its 20th birthday party on 14th June at its centre in Cardonald, Glasgow.
Cutting the cake donated by Special Days Cakes, Clare, who hails from Glasgow, will sing Happy Birthday and meet with local councillor Alex Wilson and families who benefit from music therapy, as well as charity bosses and partners. Grogan said: “Music is my therapy - I'm always banging on about the benefits of singing your heart out, hitting a drum or rocking out in your bedroom to your favourite band playing loud on the radio. I'm so proud to play a little part in this amazing organisation.”

Nordoff Robbins Scotland Chairman, Donald MacLeod said: “We are delighted that Clare is joining us to mark 20 years since the charity was founded in Scotland.
“In that time our therapists have used the power of music to change the lives of thousands of the country’s vulnerable children and adults.
“The team now sees around 430 children and adults every month with conditions ranging from autism to complex disability.”
Demand for Music Therapy continues to rise as the benefits are recognised for people with a wide range of conditions. Music Therapy is most commonly used to help people with learning and development disorders, complex disabilities and autism. Now the charity is seeing increased demand in areas such as dementia and emotional & behavioural challenges.
MacLeod continues: “This milestone year heralds a new phase for the charity. Our big ambition is to make music therapy available to many more people who would benefit. We have just launched a new service in Aberdeen and will soon be relocating to better premises in Fife. All this depends on donations. We work hard to raise around £500,000 a year to provide the services, and could not do it without our supporters who are growing in number and who, like us, believe in the power of music to change lives for the better.”
