Fitness first for Renfrewshire schools
Schools across Renfrewshire are embracing the chance to improve health and wellbeing by signing up to The Daily Mile challenge.

At Newmains Primary School in Renfrew, more than 350 pupils enjoy the benefits of including exercise as a regular part of their school day.
Principal Teacher Sheryll Pickering said: “Our pupils really enjoy taking part as it’s a time that they can socialise with their friends and be out in the fresh air.
“Pupils can run or walk at their own level – the important thing is that everyone keeps moving!
“As an added bonus, children are more focused and calm when they return to class which makes them ready to learn.”
Other Renfrewshire schools taking part in the Daily Mile include Barsail Primary School in Erskine and Paisley's Heriot Primary School.
All 11 classes at Heriot Primary take part in the programme, while over at Barsail Primary the entire school walked a group Daily Mile on 24 January.
Convener of Education and Children's Services at Renfrewshire Council, Councillor Jim Paterson, said: "School children are clearly reaping the benefits of getting more exercise, both in improved health and better learning outcomes.
“Well done to those schools who have taken up the challenge and are seeing their students fitter, healthier and happier as a result.
“I encourage all schools across Renfrewshire to get involved in this excellent initiative.”
