Since it opened its doors in the Spring of 2019, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s Erskine Boutique has gone from strength to strength - with all profits from the shop helping people in Scotland live their lives to the full. And as the boutique gets close to its first anniversary, it is looking for new volunteers to join its team.
From 1pm – 3pm on Saturday 14th March 2020, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland will be holding a Volunteer Recruitment Day at the Erskine Boutique, 3 Bridgewater Shopping Centre, Bridgewater Place, PA8 7AA. Everyone is welcome, no matter their age or ability, or if they can only offer help on certain days of the week.
One of the people waiting to welcome new volunteers is Assistant Manager Caroline Cairns.
“I started as a volunteer at the shop myself and it’s one of the best things I ever did”, says Caroline. “I have got so much out of my time here, and it would be great if someone else could feel the same as I do. And with all of the proceeds going to help people across Scotland, you get to do something good for others - and have so much fun while you’re doing it.”
Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland helps people in Erskine and across the whole of the country. It provides specialist stroke nurses and rehabilitation services; financial advice and support; and peer support groups. All of this helps ensure that everyone in Scotland is able to live as full and rewarding a life as possible.
As someone who has had personal experience of coming to terms with changes to her own health, assistant manager Caroline wants everyone to know they have something to offer.
“I know it can feel a wee bit daunting putting yourself forward as a volunteer. It was the same for me. 14 years ago, I suffered a fall and have had to cope with chronic pain ever since. But this place has given me back the part of my life that I was missing. I get to meet so many people and chat and laugh with them. I’ve learned how to use a till, display merchandise and so many other things, and I get to take it all at my own pace. It has been a great experience and I've loved it to bits. Anyone who wants to be a part of that should come and say hello on Saturday”.
Anyone looking to get involved (or for more information about Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland and our volunteering opportunities) should call the shop on 0141 261 7345 or email volunteering@chss.org.uk - or simply pop along to the event. We look forward to seeing you.
