The partnership between Pinkston Watersports, Glasgow Wake Park and The Loading Bay Skatepark in Port Dundas lets people sign up for a host of activity packages through one easy-to-book central system.
The three alternative sport venues are all located around the top of the Forth and Clyde Canal and have transformed the area into an exciting playground of thrilling activity and a must-visit adventure spot over the last few years.
With packages including a combination of skateboarding, canoeing, scooting, white water tubing, BMX, bushcraft and wakeboarding, everyone from beginners to adrenaline lovers will be able to easily experience the great outdoors in the heart of Glasgow.
With Play Port sessions available to book now for July 2021 onwards, the team behind Play Port hope to attract members from the local community, school groups, corporate teams and stag and hen parties, as well as anyone looking for a day out or a birthday party with a difference. Play Port gift cards will also be available.
Director of The Loading Bay skatepark John Bailey said: “We’re so proud to have launched Play Port – a partnership between three incredible sporting venues jam-packed with adventurous experiences. This new collaborative brand allows people to try the different activities we have to offer through one easy to book system.
“The sporting facilities around Port Dundas are unique and the area is fast becoming a hub for adventure. After many months of uncertainty and closures due to Covid-19, each of our venues are excited to be looking towards the summer and welcoming familiar and new faces to have fun in a no pressure environment. Our teams are incredibly welcoming and can’t wait to see more people experience an urban adventure by Glasgow’s canal thanks to the launch of Play Port.”
The three forward-thinking organisations behind Play Port were awarded grant funding from the city’s tourism industry network - Experience Glasgow and their collaboration fund last year to create a unified adventure and alternative sports brand alongside creating a must-visit destination for the city.
Craig Martin, chair of Experience Glasgow explains: “Play Port is splashing into the city this summer creating something truly unique for Glaswegians to enjoy.
“By investing in fun, local experiences like Play Port, Experience Glasgow is proud to support the recovery of the city and enhance our visitor economy. The vision by The Glasgow Canal Co-op has been nothing short of inspiring and there’s nowhere else quite like Play Port for an afternoon of adventure. So support local this summer and make sure you give them a visit, you won’t regret it.”
Regular Pinkston Watersports visitor Sam, 16, said: “I’m super excited for this! It opens up a whole new adventure experience right on your doorstep!”
As members of Glasgow Canal Co-op, the three cutting-edge organisations already work closely together in this part of the city, which has undergone significant regeneration and a renaissance in recent years, to ensure their fantastic sport facilities are accessible to the local community.
