Renfrewshire Council has been awarded £143,000 from Sustrans Scotland to upgrade the National Cycle Route network in Renfrewshire.
As part of the area’s drive to ensure active travel is a viable option for all residents and visitors to Renfrewshire, the funding has been allocated to a number of improvements on some of Renfrewshire’s most well-used cycle routes.
A total of 11 sites will see improvements made and these are:
• B21/11 NCR7 to Clippens Rd and Kashmir Ave Linwood - Improving access to the route at an entrance/exit
• B21/13 NCR7 Green Rd Paisley - Lowering the kerb
• B21/17 NCR7 Lounsdale Rd / Green Rd Paisley - Resurfacing at an access point
• B21/22 NCR7 to South Campbell St Paisley - Realigning the route to improve sightlines and preventing parking which is blocking access
• B21/2 NCR75 link to Horsewood Rd Bridge of Weir - Lowering the kerb

Councillor Cathy McEwan, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said: “We want to encourage people to walk, wheel or cycle whenever possible to support healthier more active lives and these improvements will make the National Cycle Route network in Renfrewshire safer and more accessible.
“It also ties in with our climate change ambitions as we try to encourage people to leave the car at home and use active travel methods instead, and creating new and improving existing walking and cycle routes forms a key part of our ambitions.
“I look forward to the works taking place early next year and please let us know if you have any comments on the planned improvements so we can ensure they meet the needs of walkers and cyclists across the area.”
Work to make the improvements will begin in mid-January 2022 with works aimed for completion by the end of March 2022.
Any questions or comments on the planned improvements can be emailed to ei@renfrewshire.gov.uk by 5 January 2022.
