With just a few weeks to go, some of those taking part have shared their incredible stories and reasons for running.
Irene McIntosh, 66, said that after hearing from other runners that the Paisley 10k was their favourites road race, she decided to sign-up. Irene, who took up jogging just before her 60th birthday, is proving that age is no barrier. She said: “I’m really looking forward to this run and hope to enjoy my running for as many years as possible, to keep me fit and healthy into even older age.” Irene is using the Paisley 10k to fundraise for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.
The 10K Road Race is suitable for runners of all levels from novices to experienced club and international runners. For families, friends and youngsters, there is the shorter 3k Fun Run that takes in some of Paisley Town Centre's most famous landmarks, including the newly refurbished Paisley Town Hall.
Robyn Hindley, 32, says that running has helped her overcome a number of physical and mental health issues. She’s running in memory of her gran, who originated from Paisley and died last year, alongside raising money for trauma support organisation Talk Now. She said: “I had severe issues with self-esteem and weight, but after taking up running not too long ago it has totally changed my life. Don’t think I’ll be winning any of the prizes though.”
Jamie Kirk, 33, has found a new lease of life after he gave up drinking and took up running, He said: “I've done the Paisley 10k twice and loved it both times. It’s a great route great atmosphere.
“I have given up drinking and got back into running this year which has helped keep my mind focused. I have signed up for two 10k races this year and I completed the first one last month, so that is my time to beat. I am training three times a week and I'm determined to beat my time and maybe even get under the hour mark.”
Meanwhile, the Linwood Rangers under-12s football team are taking part in the 3k Family Fun Run to help fundraise for their upcoming trip. One of those taking part, said: “It’s such a well-run, inclusive event. It’s a great thing for team building, which allows the players families to get involved too.”
Last year, a record number of almost 3,500 people took part in the Paisley 10k and 3k Fun Run and already, this year’s attendance figure looks set to beat that.
Whether or not you are dusting off your running shoes to set a new personal best, to overcoming challenges to take part, or just to enjoy a great, family day out, the Paisley 10k & Fun Run is suitable for all.
