Featuring a quartet of musicians and presented by Scottish Ensemble violist Andrew Berridge, Resound will explore the familiar and new in this intimate listening experience, that will reveal the full potential of what live music can positively do for us.
With works by Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven, Edmund Finnis, Caroline Shaw and Dobrinka Tabakova, this programme is firmly rooted in Scottish Ensemble’s belief that music can lift spirits and strengthen connections. Each concert will be followed by a post-performance discussion, which will explore the audiences experience of the concert, and how music can affect our wellbeing.
Andrew Berridge commented on curating this programme: “The idea behind Resound is to have a ‘guided’ listening experience. In our wellbeing work we’ve found that slightly reframing the live musical experience can lead to a deeper connection with both the music and the musicians. Resound moves through a diverse range of voices, exploring our responses and allowing the music to speak to us more directly. Together we will widen our ears to appreciate the full potential of the power of live performance, culminating in the incredible intensity and catharsis of Beethoven’s ‘Serioso’ quartet.”
Alongside the concerts, Scottish Ensemble will also be hosting Music for Wellbeing sessions with at Midpark Hospital in Dumfries & Galloway, school groups in Tobermory and Dumfries and Galloway, and older people’s lunch group in Seil. These sessions combine live music with guided listening and techniques to use music in everyday life to help combat stress and anxiety, find calm and lift moods.
