Exciting Guest at Our Next Artist Meet Up – Wilma Smith!
Enjoy light refreshments and inspiring conversation.
Wilma Smith is a writer/director and stop motion animator originally from Coatbridge who started making films as a teenager, she attended Glasgow School of Art (2000) and initially shot on 16mm before going digital in the early noughties, co-writing and co-directing several zero budget features which screened internationally with ‘Four Eyes’ and ‘My Life as a Bus Stop’ nominated for the Michael Powell Award at EIFF. Wilma got her first commission with a Bridging the Gap documentary 'The Review' (2016) through the Scottish Documentary Institute. During the pandemic, Wilma studied an online 4 month stop motion animation course through Aardman Academy and shortly after that made her second commission through Screen Scotland and BFI Network, a blend of live action and stop motion animation ‘The Jubilee’ which was nominated for the Thelma Schoonmaker Prize for Short Filmmaking Excellence at EIFF 2024. Wilma is a mum of two daughters.
